State Representative Dwight Evans Wins International Community Service Award From Team Jamaica Bickle

Philadelphia, PA (April 3, 2007). State Representative and Mayoral Candidate Dwight Evans has been selected to receive the International Community Service Award from Team Jamaica Bickle (bickle means food) at the Penn Relays, 2007. The award will be presented to Representative Evans on Tuesday, April 10, 6:30 p.m. at PECO Energy, 2301 Market Street , Philadelphia , PA. The award is the organization’s highest honor given each year to a regional leader who has taken a keen interest in urban and international economic development. Prior recipients include Kenny Gamble , Honorable Jannie Blackwell, and Philanthropist Dr. Walter Lomax. The West Philadelphia Seventh Day Adventist Church will also be given an International Award on the same day.

“State Representative Evans has worked tirelessly for all people in this City and the State of Pennsylvania particularly in the areas of education and violence prevention…Amid all his responsibilities, he has never missed an opportunity to assist the African and Caribbean communities”, says Vincent Heath, event Co-Chair.
Team Jamaica is a group of volunteers who provide meals, hotel assistance, ground transportation, and hospitality services for participating athletes from Jamaica and the Caribbean at the Penn Relays. Many of the participating athletes and schools lack the financial resources to pay for all their expenses. Team Jamaica raises funds to assist those students. “We never know which one of these talented athletes will excel on the field and win scholarships to attend a university in the United States ….we are giving them an opportunity to do their best,” says Ms. Barbara Wilson , event Chair and President of Philadelphia Caribbean Festival.
