‘Battle Of The Legends’ Clash To Take Over NYC Easter Weekend, April 10, 2009

New York is set to be ablaze when four legends in the sound system industry take center stage at Amazura on Good Friday, April 10 for a clash that will go down in the history books.  For the first time ever, pioneer sound men David Rodigan, Down Beat, King Jammy’s and Black Scorpio are set to compete on one stage at “Battle of the Legends” before thousands of fans.

The sound clash industry is chock-full of rivalries.  Two of the most notorious, which have been brewing for decades, include that of David Rodigan/Down Beat and King Jammy’s/Black Scorpio. In an effort to allow these classic sounds to settle their score, Irish and Chin is converging them for this historical event.  “Battle of the Legends” is just one of the exciting clash line-ups that Irish and Chin has in store in the near future.

The idea of having these greats clash and inevitably nurture their younger counterparts emerged after David Rodigan, Down Beat, King Jammy’s and Black Scorpio were honored for their accomplishments at Death Before Dishonor 8 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.  Their striking performance at the event and strong crowd reception were tell-tale indicators that a clash was a must.

“I think that these sounds embody the comepetitive, yet good sportmanship of the sound clash golden era,” says Garfield “Chin” Bourne.  “This clash will afford young clash fans with a blueprint of a genuine sound clash….moreover, it will show them how an intense clash can go down without excessive cussing and disrespect.”

With monstrous catalogues of some of the industry’s most valued dubs, this clash is certain to drive sound clash revelers into a nostalgic frenzy.  Bringing sound clashing back to the basics with music from Tenor Saw, Nitty Gritty, Johnny Osbourne and so many more is just one of the treats that will unfold at “Battle of the Legends.”

“Although World Clash New York came to a close, by no means could I hold back my passion for producing top-of-the-line, respected sound clash events,” says Garfield “Chin” Bourne.

Easter weekend is set to be a blast in New York with this stellar affair.  Meanwhile, clash fans in Jamaica will get to experience the ultimate sound system competition in Montego Bay at Irish and Chin’s annual Death Before Dishonor on Easter Monday, April 13.  A sizzlin’ line-up, featuring the likes of Beenie Man and Ninja Man, has been finalized for the event’s 9th installment.
