The JCDC kicked off the first World Reggae Dance Elimination Show on Easter Monday at the Goodyear Sport Club in Morant Bay St. Thomas. Over ten entries were received for this elimination and after the dance performances which left the crowd wanting more, five groups were chosen to go on to the semi-finals which will be held in July.
The 2013 JCDC World Reggae Dance Championship is being held under the theme, “What One Dance Can Do” and these five groups pulled out all stops to show the crowd and judges definitely what one dance could do to get them to the next round of the competition. The groups that will move on to the semi-final round are Magnificent Dancers, Total Eclyps, Face Xpression Dancers, Endevarous Dancers, Tear Dropz, and K. Swagg.
The next eliminations will be held on Friday, June 7 at the Sean Lavery Faith Hall, Westmoreland and Friday, June 14 at the Ocean Village, Shopping Centre, St. Ann both events start at 4:00 p.m. Eliminations will also be held on Friday, June 21 in Kingston and Friday June 28 in St. Elizabeth. The national finals will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2013 at 8:00 p.m.
The Championship is open to dance groups of 3 to 6 persons, 16 years of age and older, residing in and outside of Jamaica. Entries are welcomed in the categories of Roots Reggae, Dancehall, Reggae Contemporary/Classic, Reggae Dancehall and Dance Narrative.
Entry form for the 2013 competition is available at the JCDC Head Office located at 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10, all JCDC parish offices island-wide and online at www.jcdc.gov.jm. The forms can be dropped off at any JCDC Parish Office or taken to the elimination shows.
