In light of the recent alleged fracas between Upcoming artiste Lala Pink doll and Recording artiste Tiana. I felt obliged to take a public stance and comment on the issue which has risen to the forefront.
It’s unfortunate that after Reggae Sensation Diana King, pioneered the way for others such as myself to come out publicly about our sexuality that both Lala Pink Doll and Tiana would have allowed their dirty laundry to be publicized in such a demeaning manner. The Reggae and Dancehall Industry has already struggled in embracing a lifestyle which it deems as “unacceptable” and in recent times have made great strides in reducing homophobic lyrics and discrimination.
We can’t allow ourselves as practioners within the said space to be defined by our actions or sexuality. We have a duty to help champion the advocacy of the rights of the minority not just within Jamaica but outside its borders.
What has transpired has in no way contributed towards furthering an industry and its supporters to be more tolerant and respectable of the rights of all. We in the public spotlight should to hold ourselves to a greater degree of accountability.
I emplore both of you, to not further this melee and seek some middle ground as professionals and adults.
