Exciting Festival Queen Coronations Kicks Off, May 3rd, 2014, St Mary

The exciting coronations in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition kicks off on May 3 in St. Mary at the Anglican Church Hall in Port Maria at 8: 00 p.m. Tickets are available at the JCDC St. Mary Office, Adults $1000 and Children under 12 years old, $400.

Other scheduled coronations include the Parish Show for St. Ann on Saturday May 10 at the St. John’s Anglican Church Hall in Ocho Rios. Tickets are being sold at the St. Ann Parish Office at Adults $800 and Children under 12 years old, $200. Also on Saturday, May 10, Manchester will crown their Festival Queen at the Cecil Charlton Hall in Mandeville starting at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the JCDC Parish Office in Manchester, costing adults, $800 presold, 1000 at the gate and children under 12 pay $300.

Trelawny is gearing up for its Parish Show which will be held on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 11 at the Royalton White Sand Hotel (formerly Starfish Hotel) at 8: 00 p.m. The public can get tickets at the Trelawny Parish Office at a cost of Adults, $1000 presold, $1200 at the gate and children under 12 years old, $500.

The 2014 competition is being held under the theme, “Jamaican Women…Shaping our Culture and our Nation” and will allow contestants to compete for a chance to represent their parish as cultural ambassadors and compete at the National Coronation. The contestants will be judged in categories including Cultural Awareness, Community Involvement and Performance.   

The Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition is the premier forum for intelligent, culturally-aware and poised young ladies seeking a platform to make their contributions to nation building and to be selected as cultural ambassadors for Jamaica.

The Parish Queens will receive cash awards, trophies and gift packages from sponsors which include, Soft Sheen-Carson, Excelsior, Singer, VMBS, Stayfree, and Its Really Great Yogurt.
