jamarchThe excitement is growing as we approach the final weeks until the 2009 International Festival! Voted “Most Original Booth” in 2006 the West Indian Association hopes to capture another title for 2009.
Here’s what we have planned:
• Visual Presentation of inspiring places and the beautiful faces of the Caribbean.
• Life-size steel pan on display
• ‘Did You Know?’ – an activity sharing interesting facts about the Caribbean islands.
• ‘Caribbean Connections’ – Large map of the Caribbean on display. Visitors to the booth will be able to mark the islands that they have traveled.
• ‘Taste of the Caribbean’ – WIAI Food booth will be located across from the cultural booth. Cultural booth will have recipe cards as a takeaway.
• Great background music, featuring a diverse grouping of musical genres.
Here’s how you can help:
• Volunteer to to work a shift (…or two) at the cultural booth or the food vendor booth.
• Contribute a Caribbean artifact, craft, flag or souvenir for display at the event. Don’t worry, you’ll get it back!
• Submit one of your favorite island recipes to be shared with those attending the festival.
• Submit photos of your island to be included in the visual presentation. We want to show Indiana the beauty and diversity of the Caribbean.
• Submit photos from any past WIAI events to be included in the visual presentation.
• Spread the word about the festival and tell your friends to check out our Food Booth #F19.
• We’d love to have a rythm section participating in the Parade of Nations(Saturday 6pm). If you’d like to join in, let us know!
• Submit a response to any of these questions:
– My Island Is…? (share a custom or a cultural aspect of your country)
– Things your granny used to say? Popular sayings in your country, include the meaning of the phrase. (i.e. Scornful dog nyam dutty puddin’)
