The parish coronation shows in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition will continue this weekend with the crowning of Miss St. Ann, Miss St. Elizabeth and Miss Trelawny. On Saturday, May 11, coronation will be held in St. Ann at the St. John’s Anglican Church Hall, Ocho Rios, starting at 8pm. Tickets are available at the JCDC St. Ann Office, Adults $800 and Children under 12 years old, $300. Also on Saturday, St. Elizabeth will crown their Festival Queen at the Alpart Sports Club in Nain, starting at 7 p.m. Tickets cost are adults, $500 presold, 700 at the gate and children under 12 pay $300. Tickets are available at the JCDC Parish Office in St. Elizabeth.
On Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, a new Festival Queen will be crowned to present the parish of Trelawny at the National Coronation. The Trelawny show will take place at Vibes Club Restaurant and Grill (formerly Club Cali), Cooper’s Pen, Falmouth starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the JCDC Trelawny Office, Adults, $800 presold, $1000 at the gate and children under 12 years old, $300.
The contestants in all these shows will vie for a chance to represent their parish as cultural ambassadors and compete at the National Coronation. They will be judged on Cultural Awareness, Leadership, Community Involvement and the Performing Arts. The competition under the theme: “Jamaican Women…Shaping Our Culture and Our Nation” is the premier forum for intelligent, culturally-aware and poised young ladies seeking a platform to make their contributions to nation building and to be selected as local and international ambassadors for Jamaica. The Parish Queens will receive cash awards, trophies and gift packages from sponsors which include, Spring Time, Soft Sheen Carson, Excelsior, Singer, VMBS and Colgate distributed by Kirk Distributors Limited.
This year’s contest will have added flair as JCDC celebrates its 50th anniversary with the Grand National Coronation scheduled for Saturday, August 3 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre.
