THE Reggae Film Festival 2010 at the Hilton Kingston, produced by film-maker and film festival organiser Barbara Blake Hannah, will open February 25 with a Red Carpet Gala Reception and screening of the documentary Made in Jamaica. This features a galaxy of reggae stars including Capleton, Bunny Wailers, Third World, Beenie Man and Lady Saw, all of whom are among the VIP reggae celebrities invited as special guests.
This years event is to be held at the Hilton Hotel from 25th-27th February and we have some wonderful films to show with entries from all over the world, some of these include the cult film ‘Babylon’ by Franco Rosso made in the early 80’s, ‘Made in Jamaica’ by well known French film maker Jerome Lapperousaz, we also have a world premiere of Don McConnell’s ‘Reggae in the Ruff’ which we’re all going to be looking forward to. Also a great little film about the story of Randy’s records in Kingston which later went on to become the worlds largest Reggae distributor now based in the US. These are just a few of the great films we have this year.
We have been trying hard to secure the Reggae film Festival as an annual event on Jamaican’s events calendar, we are still looking for support to help us to continue running this event each year. We have many plans for the future of the event which include the involvement of film distributors worldwide which we hope will really make a big difference to the future of the Jamaican film industry.
