The Jamaica Tourist Board, along with Al Roker Productions and WE tv, hosted the New York City premiere of the new travel special ‘First Ladies Tour’ featuring Jamaica on Tuesday, March 2, 2009 at the Helen Mills Theater. The audience watched with excitement as journalist Deborah Roberts enjoyed a VIP tour of the island led by Mrs. Lorna Golding, wife of Jamaica’s Prime Minister the Hon. Bruce Golding.
More than 150 attendees, including members of the media, travel partners and officials, were whisked away from the chilly New York weather the moment they stepped through the theater doors and were greeted with Jamaican cocktails and cuisine.
Guests were officially welcomed by Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett, Director of Tourism John Lynch, WE tv President and General Manager Kim Martin, Al Roker Entertainment Executive Producer and CEO/ NBC Weatherman Al Roker and “First Ladies Tour” Executive Producer/Director and noted travel expert Peter Greenberg. Also in attendance were Mrs. Golding, Deborah Roberts and Jamaica’s Director General Carrole Guntley.
“We are honored to showcase Jamaica through the eyes of Mrs. Golding, whose intimate knowledge of the island illustrates that Jamaica is so much more than sun, sand and sea,” said Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett. “We are especially excited to premiere the series here in New York City, where we can be joined by Deborah Roberts, Al Roker and Peter Greenberg, and share a first-look with our loyal friends of the media, travel industry and local community.”
When the show premieres on Tuesday, March 3, television viewers are in for a full-on Jamaican adventure as Mrs. Golding gives Deborah Roberts a peek inside her homeland as they take a helicopter ride along the breathtaking Montego Bay coastline and step inside some of Jamaica’s most lavish homes and private resorts – including Round Hill, home to world famous designer Ralph Lauren, and Goldeneye, the former home of James Bond creator Ian Fleming. Sit front row as the ladies take in haute couture and street style alike at the Caribbean Fashion Week (CFW) Runway Show. For the adventurous, follow the ladies as they team up with the adventure thrill seekers at Chukka Caribbean and glide 200 feet above the Montpelier jungle and kayak through the grotto-lined cliffs of Negril.
To complete this island excursion, Mrs. Golding takes Roberts to one of her favorite, and most serene places on this wonderful island – the Hope Gardens in Kingston. This 200-acre botanical garden is the largest in the Caribbean and is one of the best places to enjoy the flora of Jamaica.
The program is produced by Al Roker Productions for WE tv. Executive producers for Al Roker Productions are Al Roker and Peter Greenberg. Executive producer for WE tv is Joe Swift.
The show will have its television premiere on Tuesday, March 3 at 10:00 pm (EST) on WE tv., (www.WEtv.com), the premier source for women looking to satisfy their curiosity with fascinating, original stories and entertaining, informative content that is relevant to key stages of their lives.
