Arising from heavy rainfall that has been affecting sections of the island, the following reports have been received by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM)
Reports:
St. Ann Flooding
- Main Street Ocho Rios has been flooded
- Milford Road leading into Ocho Rios has also experienced flooding
- The National Works Agency’s (NWA) heavy duty units are currently removing debris from the main road in the town
- The bottom section of Pimento Walk is flooded and several households have been affected
- Teachers’ Cottage at the Ocho Rios High School was flooded
- Flood waters washed through the New Testament Church in Harrison Town
- The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has been informed of the situation and has dispatched a team to the Pimento Walk and Milford Road communities
- The Ocho Rios Primary School has been flooded
Blocked Roads
- Fern Gully remains blocked
- Pimento Walk is blocked
The ODPEM remains on alert and is on standby to provide the necessary assistance.
FLOOD SAFETY TIPS:
- DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS FLOODED ROADWAYS
- Listen to your radio to keep informed
- Do not walk outside barefooted during or after flooding
- Bury all dead animals as soon as possible
- Move your refrigerator, stove and furniture to a higher floor, or place them on building blocks and secure to the wall.
