Food For The Poor To Distribute 59 Wheelchairs To Persons With Disabilities, July 23, 2008, Kingston

Who? The second largest international charity in the United States and Jamaica’s leading charity organization, Food for the Poor (FFP).

What? Will be distributing 59 motorized wheelchairs, valued at over J$8.2 million, to persons with disabilities and institutions that cater to the needs of such individuals.

When? Wednesday, July 23, 2008 to commence at 9:00 a.m.

Background Information: In continuing its effort to enhance public health and improve patient care in Jamaica, Food for the Poor will be donating 59 fully motorized, adult wheelchairs to the heath sector and wheelchair-bound individuals. The total cost of the wheelchairs is put at over J$8.2 million.  Mona Rehabilitation Centre, Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities, Rural Services for Persons with Disabilities and Portmore Self Help will be among those who will benefit from 35 of the 59 wheelchairs that will be distributed at the Food for the Poor-run Our Lady of the Poor Clinic, located at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kingston.  The aim is to provide comfort and mobility to the poorest of the poor throughout Jamaica.
