Football Fever Hits Antigua For Group G Of The Digicel Caribbean Cup 2010

With only two Groups left before the finals  of this year’s Digicel Caribbean Cup kick off in Martinique, football fever is sweeping through Antigua and Barbuda as the Group G hosts prepare to take on Cuba, Dominica and Suriname at the Antigua Recreation Ground in two weeks time.

The six games in Group G – which take place over three days from November 10th to November 14th – will decide which two teams will go through to the finals. The winner and runner up of Group G will join Group E winners, Guadeloupe, and runners up, Grenada, as well as the winner and runner up from Group F which will be decided next week in Trinidad.  A total of eight teams will compete in Martinique from November 26th to be named Digicel Caribbean Cup Champions 2010.

In addition, Digicel is hosting a two-day football clinic in the run up to the matches on November 8th and 9th. More than fifty aspiring young footballers will complete two days training with Kevin Ball and Carlton Fairweather from Sunderland AFC’s Academy of Light – two of the best coaches in the Barclays Premier League.

Former Sunderland captain and Sunderland AFC Academy Coach, Kevin Ball, said; “We are very excited to be meeting some of Antigua & Barbuda’s young footballing talent. The ethos of Sunderland AFC’s Academy is about producing better footballers and strong characters so we will be looking to bring some of that to the 50 boys in the Digicel Football Clinics.

“The clinics are a fantastic opportunity for the children and we hope to pass on as much knowledge as possible on what it takes to compete at highest level,” he continued.

Digicel’s General Manager for the North Eastern Caribbean, John Delves, said; “We are looking forward to some exciting football here in Antigua. This is an excellent opportunity for Antigua not only to host Group G of the tournament, but also for the national team to gain some valuable international match experience.

“We also have an exciting opportunity for aspiring young footballers. Two of the best coaches in the English Premier League will be coaching a two-day Digicel Football Clinic for more than fifty young footballers in the run up to the matches on November 8th and 9th,” he continued.

To add to the excitement of this year’s tournament, Digicel Antigua and Barbuda is giving customers a chance to win tickets for them and five of their friends for the Digicel VIP Experience in the ARG hospitality box. To be in with a chance of winning, customers simply have to top up with $25 or more – or pay their bill in full and on time. In addition, at-match promotions will give Digicel customers the chance to win credit or the chance to “Kick for Cash” and win a brand new Samsung P1000.

Group F kicks off in Trinidad’s Mannie Ramjohn Stadium next Tuesday when the hosts will face Haiti, Guyana and St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
