Funeral arrangements have been confirmed for former Lauderdale Lakes Mayor Samuel Brown, who passed away last Saturday (Feb. 13) at the age of 87. Jamaican born, Brown was the first black mayor to serve in Broward County died after he complained of chest pains. Brown was transported to Florida Medical Center where he passed away. He served as the Lauderdale Lakes Mayor from 1998 until 2008.
A viewing will take place on Thursday, February 18th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Ascension Peace Presbyterian Church, 2701 N. SR 7, Ascension Peace Presbyterian Church, 2701 N State Road 7, Lauderdale Lakes, FL, 33313.
The Homegoing Service will take place on Friday, February 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Merrell United Methodist Church, 3900 N. SR 7 in Lauderdale Lakes. A repast will follow at the Lauderdale Lakes Multi-Purpose Facility, 4340 NW 36th Street, Lauderdale Lakes, FL 33319. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that a monetary donation be made to the Mayor Samuel S. Brown Scholarship Fund, 4300 NW 36th Street, Lauderdale Lakes, FL 33319.
