Atlanta, Georgia – April 22, 2008. In recognition of Caribbean American Heritage Month, the Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition (GCAHC) will host an Awards Banquet and Silent Auction on June 28, 2008, at the Cobb Galleria Centre, Two Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, Georgia 30339. The Awards Banquet will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. The Mighty Sparrow will receive The Caribbean Treasure and Kaiso Icon Entertainer Award for his outstanding service and musical excellence and he will also be performing. Additionally, veteran Caribbean music radio presenter, Lisimba Hazel, of WRFG 89.3 FM and formerly of WCLK 91.9 FM will receive the Caribbean Music Awareness Award for his dedication in increasing awareness of Caribbean music in the metro Atlanta area.
The Atlanta-based Atlanta Max Band will perform, and music will be by Aba Shaka of WRFG 89.3 FM. The Master of Ceremonies will be radio personality Shelley Wynter of WAOK 1380 AM. The Awards Banquet will conclude the month of activities that begins with an Opening Reception at Atlanta City Hall Atrium in downtown Atlanta on Sunday, June 1st, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The reception will feature a national dress display, country displays, a Caribbean food tasting, entertainment and more. Donations will be accepted. Sponsors for the June events include Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Kroger, Publix, Georgia Pacific and Air Jamaica.
