Hail the Sound Systems at Reggae On The River

‘Pull Up!’ – Sound systems played an irrevocable role in roots reggae’s historical beginnings in Jamaica. Starting in the 1950’s, a truck loaded up with a custom stack of speakers and turntables provided the impetus for a street party while providing an outlet for local artists and the arising Black consciousness to be heard and gain strength.

To this day, a needle on the wax (or a click of the lap top), an emcee on the mic, and an immense amount of bass brings forward the reality of word, power and sound as one comes to know that reggae music is not just meant to be heard, but also felt.

Coming at you from the stage as well as the river bar, this year we have a whole host of sound systems and DJs who’ll be spinning the finest in roots, culture and dancehall.
