January 26, 2008 – On Saturday January 19 Alia Atkinson underlined her position as one the best breastrokers in NCAA competition by taking three wins with that stroke and helping Texas A and M to a 178-119 win over Louisiana State University. She got the decision in the 100 yard breastroke out-touching LSU’s Kannon Betzen 1:03.59 to 1:03.63 (1:13.09 to 1:13.14 LCM Long course metres). In the 200 breastroke she stamped her top four ranking in this event with a NCAA consideration time of 2:17.55 (2:36.60 LCM) clocking beating the field by more than three seconds. In the 200 yard medley relay she had the fastest breastroke leg with a split of 28.95 (33.28 LCM) putting Texas A and M on top of the podium with a total team time of 1:42.88. She swam an exhibition 200 freestyle relay for the Aggies leading off in 24.41(28.03 LCM) for a total team time of 1:37.67. Atkinson holds the Jamaican national senior records in the 50, 100 and 200 metre breastroke.
