Derek Walcott, Nobel Laureate of St. Lucia and Rex Nettleford, Professor Emeritus of Jamaica, are two of the outstanding Caribbean Nationals who will be honored at the annual Caribbean-American Heritage Commemorative Gala, scheduled for Thursday, June 18 at the Miramar Arts Center Ballroom. The event is under the patronage of the Caricom Consular Corp and is the kick-off event for a week-end of activities being staged by the Caribbean-American Heritage Foundation, Caribbean-American Book & Art Fair (CABA) and The City of Miramar.
Walcott, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1992, will be the featured speaker on Friday, June 19 at the “Laureate Conversation” the opening reception and launch of the Caribbean-American Book & Art Fair, which takes place on Saturday, June 20 at the Miramar City Hall Plaza, 3600 Civic Center Place.
Several high-profile authors such as Derek Walcott, Paule Marshall, Edwidge Danticat, Opal Palmer Adisa, Donna Weir Soley, Eintou Pearl Springer, Zee Edgell, Cynthia Mc Leod among others will join scholars, publishers and the media in panel discussions and seminars, interacting with the public in an ambiance only the Caribbean knows how to provide.
