Man is fond of counting his troubles, but he does not count his joys. If he counted them up as he ought to, he would see that every lot has enough happiness provided for it.
Flodor Dostoeusky
For years, I measured my happiness based on what I had, who I was with, and what I had accomplished.
However, I found out that no matter how much I had accomplished, I still wasn’t happy.
I experienced short term gratification.
Not true happiness.
There was always something bigger and better I needed to do.
Nothing could satisfy my longings.
I found out that I would never be happy:
- Waiting around for someone to treat me like the queen I am.
- Wishing conditions were better.
Choosing to be content where you are right NOW!
It is that simple.
Many of us spend a lot of time thinking about what we could be doing in the future that we forget to live in the present. We are dissatisfied with our lives so we find distractions to keep us occupied.
Some of us spend so much time comparing ourselves to others, we trick ourselves into believing that if we only had what they had, than we would be happy.
Deception!
A terrible lie from the pit of hell I tell you!
To experience happiness, we have to be willing to change our mindset.
Happiness is not something to be experienced in the future.
Happiness is a emotion we choose to embrace now, irrespective of what is happening around us and to us.
You might be saying, “Kymarie you just don’t know what I am going through. I am unemployed, underemployed, having relational issues, lonely, and my children are acting like they have lost their mind. There is just no way I can be happy now.”
Not true.
But I do understand. It is as a result of my own life experiences why I am now able to share with you the secret to experiencing happiness. I had to come up with a way to be happy no matter what, or I would have lost my my mind.
Somethings we have no control over. But how we choose to react to what is happening to us is a choice.
I had to reprogram my mind and change the way I was looking at things. I would be lying if I told you it is always easy, choosing to be happy. But I still have the power to choose.
Life won’t be getting easier. However, you can choose to be better.
I wish I had a magic wand to wave over everyone’s head and say BE THOU HAPPY!
But what I do have, I give to you freely.
Encouragement.
Hope.
Parting Words
Practice the art of being still. It will take time to master stillness, but keep practicing it everyday.
Change what you can. Don’t worry about tomorrow. Think about all the other times when you had a challenging situation, it worked out and you never died.
Don’t resist what you have no control over. Wait patiently for your change.
Express gratitude. There are so many things you can find to be grateful for.
Until we meet again, choose to be happy no matter what today.
Oh by the way, leave me a comment sharing some of the things you are grateful for.
