On Saturday April 6, 2013 ICS will launch a year long commemoration of its 20th Anniversary with a salute to its Volunteers, Partners,  and Supporters.  Keynote speaker for the 20th Anniversary Prayer Breakfast will be the Canon Reverend Kortwright Davis, Rector of the Holy Comforter Church where the Thanksgiving Program will be held.

“The road has not been easy, or straight or smooth, but I am sure my fellow journeymen Gabriel Christian and Ian Edwards who have been a part of this journey since  DAY ONE, will agree that we could not have taken this dream to its current state without thousands of volunteer hours contributed by my best estimate over 200 people.  Considering our level of success, we can only say All Praises to the Most High”, said Dr.  Claire Nelson, ICS Founding President.

The Prayer Breakfast will single out Twenty Volunteers for Special Recognition as ICS Angels.  The Award which was commissioned by ICS from Jamaican ceramicist Donovan Fairweather, who also crafts the Caribbean American Heritage Awards, depicts the back of an angel in flight, representing the notion of souls who leave good behind.  The Honorees for Saturday’s event include :

George Dalley Esq., Former Chief of Staff to Congressman Rangel, who serves on ICS honorary Advisory Board since its founding; Marcia Johnson Blanco, Director at the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights, who was a leading player in launching ICS’ Annual Legislative Forum  in 1999; Liselle Yorke, Communications Director for Grameen Foundation USA, who served as ICS’ first Public Relations Officer and helped to launch its Embassy Evening Programs.

The Year-Long Commemoration of Volunteerism in the Caribbean American Community will include the  ‘Many Faces of ICS’ eWall of Fame (an online photo exhibit of the people who have contributed to ICS over the years;  and the National Caribbean American Heritage Month Community Leadership Awards, to be presented in June, which will honor the Spirit of Volunteerism in the Caribbean American Community.
