jamarchPrime Minister Portia Simpson Miller says though an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will give the Government some needed assistance, the IMF is not the solution to all our problems but what is needed is a partnership among all Jamaicans.
The Prime Minister made the comment as she addressed a Media Briefing on Monday (January 14) at Jamaica House following a three day special meeting of the Cabinet.
“The IMF will not solve the problems of Jamaica. We all have to make some sacrifices and it is us as Jamaicans that will have to work together in unity to move this country forward,” Mrs Simpson Miller said.
“It must be all of us working together for the growth and development of Jamaica as one Jamaican family shaping our future together,” she added.
Noting there were some in the society who desired to see her use her ‘political capital’ to benefit a few, the Prime Minister insisted that she has a responsibility to all Jamaica and was not into making announcements or saying something if it is not going to happen.
At the briefing, the Prime Minister updated journalists and the country on the three day special Cabinet meeting which she said focused, among other things on the IMF negotiations; advancing the growth and development agenda; enhanced public/private partnerships and job creation as well as social protection.
