Rushane Sanderson also known as DeepJahi has emerged the winner of the 2014 Jamaica Festival Song Competition with his entry, “I Love JA”. The song which will provide a musical backdrop to this year’s Jamaica Festival celebration was selected from an impressive collection of 2014 Festival Songs.
Sanderson who is no stranger to a competition as he is the 2012 Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall winner noted that he was surprised by the win but was happy and ecstatic. He received the 2014 Festival Song trophy in addition to $500,000 cash prize and gift baskets.
Sanjay ‘Sanj’ Thompson copped second place for his entry, “Jamaica Boom” in addition to sectional prizes of Best Performance and the Voters Choice awards while third spot was awarded to Sujae Johnson known as” Kahani’ for “My Jamaica”. Bono G, Bastic, Pehtrol, Clearance, Oliver Smoothe, King Solomon and Rojjah who completes the top ten gave great performances to the delight of the audience.
The Show got underway on Saturday, July 26 at 8:00 p.m. with the finalists making a grand entry on motorcycles into the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre signaling an impressive and different staging of the popular Festival Song Competition. The Competition was held under the theme, “A New Day”.
Energetic and dynamic performances by the contestants whose songs encapsulated the Jamaican spirit while generating interest and patriotism kept the audience on their feet. The entertainment package was another highlight of the night with performances from Jamaican artistes Bugle, Nesbeth and IKaya.
