Jamaica Independence 2006 Activities In Atlanta

The events, will commence on:

Friday July 28 – with a Town Hall Meeting and Community forum on Immigration and how it affects us all at 5pm at Hillside Presbyterian Church 1879 Columbia Dr Decatur, GA 30032.Also there will be a public presentation about a Chamber of Commerce that represents Jamaican interests in Atlanta. Saturday, July 29th with a Festival Dance at C&C Hideaway – 1510 Rodgers Lake Road, Lithonia. Music will be provided by Tony Randall.

A thanksgiving service will be held Sunday, July 30 at the Hillside Presbyterian Church commencing at 5:00p.m. The sermon will be delivered by Rt. Rev. Alfred Reid, Anglican Archbishop of Jamaica and Cayman Islands.At the function, the Prime Minister’s message will be read by Vin Martin Esquire, Jamaica’s Honorary Consul in Atlanta. The first lesson will be read by the president of the Atlanta Jamaican Association, Alan Alberga. The service will be moderated by Rev. Dr. Winston Lawson, pastor of Hillside Presbyterian Church. He will be assisted by Rev. Dr. Noel Erskine, Associate Professor of Theology at Emory University, and the Rev. Barry Davis, who will coordinate the music for the evening. A reception will follow after the church service.

On Wednesday, August 3, the annual variety concert will take place at Church of the Holy Cross, Royal Hall beginning at 6:00 p.m. The concert will feature a number of cultural performances with special guest Monty Montgomery and his band.

On Saturday, August 5, the Atlanta Jamaican Association will host its annual Independence and Emancipation Ball and present Scholarship Awards. This black tie affair will commence at 7:00 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel, downtown Atlanta and will have as its guest speaker, former prime minister of Jamaica, the Most Hon. P.J. Patterson. Patrons will dance to the music of Monty Montgomery & Massive Band.

On Sunday, August 6, Independence Day, Jamaica Day the annual Family Fun Day will be held at Lithonia Park. The event will feature numerous sports, entertainment and other leisure events.
