India Tour Of West Indies Launches In Port Of Spain, Trinidad Courtesy Of Digicel

Digicel, proud sponsor of West Indies Cricket, last night officially launched the arrival and upcoming series of India Vs. West Indies at a cocktail event in Movietowne, Invaders Bay.

This glamorous affair, which also incorporated the Trinidad Premiere of “Fire in Babylon”, saw almost 200 guests in attendance, including representatives from the West Indies cricket team, as well as cricket legend and star of the film, Deryck Murray.

From award-winning producers Charles Steel and John Battsek, “Fire in Babylon” tells the remarkable and compelling story of how the West Indies cricket team triumphed through the achievements of one of the most gifted teams in sporting history during the 1970s and 1980s.

Speaking before the premiere, Deryck Murray, said; “It is great that we have the opportunity to witness for the first time in Trinidad & Tobago a film showing the exploits of West Indians in that period. What was achieved was only made possible by the pioneering work of those who came before us.

“These players made it possible for later players to make a mark and hopefully ‘Fire in Babylon’ will be an inspiration to future generations,” continued Murray.

Digicel Trinidad & Tobago CEO, Niall Dorrian, said; “Our mission at Digicel – as proud sponsors of West Indies cricket since 2004 – is to find new and exciting ways to bring the full experience and excitement of the game to everyone. With that, we are proud to be hosting the Trinidad premiere of ‘Fire in Babylon’ – bringing this unique and thrilling documentary to cricket fans and showcasing one of the most memorable periods in the history of sport.

“We are also very proud to welcome the number one team in the world to Trinidad for what we’re expecting will be an exciting three days of cricket. For the fans, there are a number of promotions and giveaways coming their way like “Cricket Trivia Chest” as well as our Facebook competition, ‘All in’. Our dedicated cricket website www.digicelcricket.com continues to boast lots of exclusive content, player blogs and photos – so that fans can get the most out of the cricket action,” continued Dorrian.

Following on from last night’s Trinidad premiere, each of the remaining host markets – Antigua & Barbuda, Jamaica, Barbados and Dominica – will host a screening of ‘Fire in Babylon’ as its pre-match event.

The West Indies v India Series kicks off on Saturday 4th June in Trinidad & Tobago’s Queen’s Park Oval with the Digicel Pearls Twenty 20 match. After completing two Digicel Pearls ODI matches, the teams will then play in Antigua & Barbuda, Jamaica and Barbados before finishing in Dominica on July 10th.
