The observance of the National Day of a country remains always an occasion for the display of national pride and patriotism by all its citizens. On this occasion of Jamaica’s Forty-Second Anniversary of Independence, I take great pleasure in extending Independence greetings to my fellow Jamaicans and friends.
As we celebrate this milestone, it is important that we give thanks always to the Almighty for His continuous blessing and guidance. Today, we can look back with justifiable satisfaction at what we as a people have managed to achieve both nationally and internationally. Our music, cultural arts, scholarship, entrepreneurship and sportsmanship have made us renowned worldwide. Our achievements have been made possible because of the quality, the talents, the dedication, the hard work and the participation of all our people, whether living in Jamaica or overseas.
I am proud to acknowledge the role played by members of the Diaspora, who have demonstrated immense passion and integrity in their committed contributions to the development and stability of our homeland, Jamaica. This continued show of support is a reflection of the reality of the Jamaican spirit, recognizing that we are, yes, a sovereign nation, bound by Constitution and law, and accepting that the prosperity of the nation depends on our unity and indivisibility. Given our common purpose in our relentless pursuit of excellence, we continue to dare to achieve.
And so, as we proudly celebrate our Independence, let us remain mindful of our responsibilities to our nation, being resolute in our determination to consolidate the achievements of the past, yet be open to ‘New Directions’ as we reach to the future. With the help of the Almighty we shall succeed.
Happy Independence and may God Bless you all. Always the word is love!
