Ohm Grown Records in conjunction with Equal Distribution is proud to announce the first digital download release of REGGAE AGAINST LANDMINES – VOLUME 1. Featuring all original tracks by Odel & the Govament, the Mighty Howard, Roots By Nature, Freedom Fighters & the Wailers, Madi Simmons, Progress, Friendlyness & the Human Rights with Tréson, Anayah Roots meets Mystical Powa, Injham featuring Zion Irie and Instrument Of Jah, this release has been brewing for quite a while. “We just had to be very careful”, explains Ras Allover, who initiated and compiled the release. “We needed to be sure of the quality and consciousness of the music but also be very clear about how we would handle the red tape which was extremely crucial to us. We looked into releasing it as a full audio CD at first but we also had to look at the cost associated with manufacturing and distribution because we wanted to make sure that as much money as possible gets channelled to the actual landmine clearance operations.”
The first REGGAE AGAINST LANDMINES compilation is now available on iTunes as well as all major digital e-stores such as Napster, Amazon, eMusic and many others. All profits will be donated directly to MgM (Menchen gegen Minen / People against Landmines), a German based humanitarian non-profit landmine clearance organization that has been active in Africa for the past 14 years with the main focus on clearing landmines in Angola.
But with more than 15 million active landmines left in Angola alone due to the civil war and children representing 50% of all landmine casualties there is plenty of work left to do, and tracks are already pouring in for Volume 2 of REGGAE AGAINST LANDMINES.
“We’re very impressed with our reggae community, the feedback has been absolutely tremendous so far”, continues Ras Allover. “We are so grateful to all the conscious reggae artists that have donated tracks for our first release and I see many of them actively promoting the landmine issue as well which is equally as important. And Ohm Grown Records will just continue putting out more releases of REGGAE AGAINST LANDMINES as long as they are landmines left to clear. If Bob Marley and Peter Tosh were alive today I think they would have been very proud.”
