The investment climate in the Caribbean and Latin America was the focus of discussion here Tuesday on the opening day of the United Arab Emirates Global Investment Forum being held at the Emirates Palace.
The two day meeting, organized by the Institutional Investor Magazine and hosted by the Government of the United Arab Emirates, devoted one of its panel discussions to investment opportunities in the Caribbean, South and Central America. The panel examined the political, economic and social environment in the region and analyzed the risks and advantages in doing business in various countries of the region.
Participants in the panel discussion also analyzed the impact of the current global financial crisis on the economies in Latin America and the Caribbean. There is significant interest on the part of several international companies in investing in the region particularly in areas such as agriculture, information technology and communications.
Speakers on the panel were Panama’s Chief Trade Negotiator, Ambassador Leroy Sheffer; Eduardo Mufarej, Partner, Tarpon Investments of Brazil and Mike Singh, Chairman of Telekom Caribe and Indus-Americas Strategy Group.
