Singer/songwriter Nefatari is currently on an artistic high. After attending the Irie Jamboree festival for five years in a row, Nefatari has entered the big league now since being handpicked to perform during the festival’s new artist segment. Nefatari performed before a crowd that eventually swelled to an amount of over 30,000 atendees. “I’ve attended the Irie Jamboree festival for years and to be on the same bill with acts such as Sean Paul, T.O.K. and Etana is a huge honor.”
Nefatari graced the stage with her keen sense of fashion blended with her melodic tones and electrifying stage presence. The crowd was very receptive to the upcoming singer/songwriters two songs, which included “Go”, and a riveting performance of her smash hit “Want Him.” The latter song received massive airplay in Nefatari’s parents’ hometown of Jamaica. “It was very important for me to start off with “Go” because it has quickly become a fan favorite,” says Nefatari. Nefatari took extreme delight in showcasing her second song, “Want Him”, to an audience that was very familiar with the song’s popular Gangsta Beat riddim, which also features several other reggae acts.
Nefatari’s music style of pop with a reggae/rock twist was definitely evident making her performance standout from the other musical acts. Dressed in a Nicole Miller silver and gold sequenced white dress, a gray cropped jacket and jeweled strapped high heels, Nefatari made use of the entire stage engaging the responsive audience. Nefatari knew it was a job well done after exiting the stage while the crowd responded with huge applause and shouts for more of the “Pop-Reggae Rockstar”.
“For the fans who were unable to attend this once in a lifetime performance, they need not worry because I have a treat in store for them” says Nefatari. Video footage of the performance can be viewed at this link: Nefatari performs at Irie Jam ’09
Still on an artistic high, Nefatari wastes no time making use of her current momentum. The singer/songwriter has recently finished her first mixtape, IPOD UPGRADE, which will be available for free download starting next week. Fans and newcomers can expect a six-song musical journey injected with new tunes and familiar songs alike. Nefatari remixes songs by Lil’ Wayne and Fabolous and also has original songs on the mixtape.
“I can’t wait for the world to hear my first official musical offering. I wrote all of the songs on this project so I am very proud of it and confident in it. I am just an artist to the left that’s giving Pop music what it’s missing; my take on reggae/rock infused with today’s popular sound. They have tagged me with the name Pop Music’s Mistress or the Pop, Reggae, Rockstar…either one works!” says Nefatari.
