Irish and Chin has incorporated an exciting twist to their highly anticipated stagings of the witty Jamaican play “Serious Business” on June 5 (Tilden High School – Brooklyn) and June 6 (York College – Queens). In addition to the premise of uniting theater and dancehall with music from top Jamaican radio personality DJ Roy, now, patrons can also enjoy top prizes.
Sponsored by People’s Choice Furniture, New York theatergoers will be entered into a raffle to win a brand new Ashley dining room set. Raffle winners will be announced during intermission at each of the productions. “Our plays are widely supported by families….therefore, we selected a prize that families can enjoy together,” says Garfield “Chin” Bourne of Irish and Chin, Inc. “Over the years, we have made our mark as dancehall promoters…..I am grateful that patrons are wholeheartedly supporting our play promotions.”
People’s Choice Furniture was the ideal business for Irish and Chin to team up with, as it’s owner is heavily involved in Caribbean events and an avid supporter of the Caribbean community. “People’s Choice Furniture is dedicated to providing quality furniture to the community,” says owner Dale Getfield. “Offering the Ashley dining room sets as prizes at ‘Strictly Business’ is directly in tune with our mission.”
By popular demand, a New Jersey staging of “Serious Business” will take place on Saturday, June 26 in East Orange at the Cicely L. Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts (showtime 7:00 PM). There, patrons will be entered into a raffle for a flat screen TV.
The hit play “Serious Business” features Keith “Shebada” Ramsay and an all-star cast. Written by Paul O’Beale and directed by Michael Nicholson, “Serious Business” is a top-rate, humor-infused play from the Stages productions camp that follows in the footsteps of their Bashment Granny success.
