An article on Reuters declares that root reggae is making a comeback in Jamaica . The article is titled “Reggae making a revival in Jamaica, recalling golden era of ’70s” discusses Roots Reggae vs. Dancehall. The article mentions how “dancehall” has been rocked by scandals involving popular dancehall artists including Buju Banton and Vybz Kartel.
They list a new breed of Jamaican roots reggae artists and their successes. Those listed include, Protoje, Tarrus Riley, Chronixx, Jah9, and Kabaka Pyramid. One of the best quotes in the article is from Billy Wilmot, the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for the Mystic Revealers.
“Reggae is always socially conscious music and socially relevant,” said Wilmot. “It might not be what you want to hear, but it’s what’s going on in society.”
