RAINFOREST SEAFOOD FESTIVAL ATTRACTS THOUSANDS—02/21/15
Montego Bay’s Catherine Hall Entertainment Center was the venue for another successful edition of the Rainforest Seafood Festival. The festival enjoys the participation of the Jamaica Public Service Company, the National Commercial Bank, and ATL Automotive. The proceeds from the event support the Cornwall Regional Hospital and the We Care Foundation. The funds raised this year are marked for the purchase of additional life-saving equipment for the hospital.
WILLIAMS’ PLAY TO HAVE NEW YORK PREMIERE—02/22/15
The award-winning play “The Black That I Am” by Jamaican actor and writer Karl O’Brien Williams, will receive a premiere staging in New York during the city’s Black History Month celebrations. It will run in Queens and Off Broadway from February 25 to March 8, 2015. The play explores elements of black identity from the Caribbean perspective.
MARCH TOUR FOR CHRONIXX—02/26/15
Musical revolutionary Chronixx plans to make a three-parish tour between March 13 and March 15, 2015. The tour will feature the musician’s Zincfence Redemption Band and will represent the first part of the Capture Land Jamaica Tour. The reggae singer is using the tour to further his efforts to be a change agent for the country.
2015 GROUNATION ENDS WITH BILBY, MCDONALD—02/27/15
The weekly 2015 series Grounation ended by featuring Dr. Kenneth Bilby and Larry McDonald. Bilby’s voice performance was complemented by video and audio in a presentation of the Unsung Contribution of African-Jamaica Percussion in Popular Music at Home and Abroad. McDonald performed to the accompaniment of drummers from Akwaaba and Mystic Revelation of Rastafari.
