THEATER CLARIFIES INFORMATION ABOUT PRODUCTION—02/07/15
The Little Theater Movement (LTM) of Jamaica wants to make it clear that its Princess Boonoonoonoos production was not linked with the Bashment Granny production. According to Barbara Gloudon, producer and playwright, the theater has received questions about whether the two productions were connected. She emphasized that no communications are exchanged between the two works, which will continue to be separate enteritis.
CHRONIXX TELLS REASON FOR NFREQUENT PERFORMANCES IN JAMAICA—02/09/15
Chronixx, noted reggae artiste, provided information about why he does not perform very often in Jamaica. He also gave his opinions on land taxes. Chronixx has criticized the individuals responsible for the slave trade and land taxes in Jamaica, releasing a single in 2014 that addressed these issues. He said he does not perform in Jamaica very often because he is not comfortable charging Jamaicans to see his performances.
KENDRICK LAMAR, ASSASSIN TEAM UP—02/11/15
Assassin is being featured on the new single by Kendrick Lemar, the American rapper. The song is entitled “The Blacker the Berry, ” which is produced by the Jamaican Matthew Jehu Samuels, also known as Boi-1da who is based in Canada. According to Assassin, the song represents another way to represent Jamaica and its dancehall music. The song was recorded at Big Yard Studios. It celebrates African-American heritage.
AFRICAN-CARIBBEAN INSTITUTE DISPLAYS JAMAICAN CULTURE—02/12/15
Important elements of Jamaica’s cultural heritage are on public display after being documents by the African-Caribbean Institute of Jamaica (ACIJ) and Jamaica Memory Bank (JMB). The exhibit was launched during a ceremony at the organization’s library in Kingston., which was attended by Lisa Hanna, Youth and Culture Minister. This exhibit focuses on crafts, storytelling, songs, and customs of various ethnic groups.
