The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) joined the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) in celebrating the 45th edition of Caribbean Week in New York City, held June 1-9. The destination boasted a strong presence, attending and co-sponsoring various events throughout the week, targeting the media, Diaspora community and local New Yorkers.

The week kicked off on a tasty note, with a culinary demonstration by Jamaican Celebrity Chef Samantha Davis hosted at Bloomingdale’s flagship store in midtown Manhattan. Chef Sam showcased the island’s native flavors with her rendition of oxtail dumplings served in a lemongrass curry sauce, giving store-goers a tantalizing taste of Jamaican. Chef Sam was also among several chefs who took over the historic James Beard House for a special ‘Taste of the Caribbean’ multi-course dinner.
The Jamaican delegation also participated in Caribbean Media Marketplace, an interactive experience for CTO member governments to engage with journalists from trade and consumer press. Jamaica’s Director of Tourism Donovan White met with journalists to discuss Jamaica’s latest arrival figures, the island’s flourishing tourist industry and the strategy for continued success.
To close-off the weeklong celebration, the Jamaica Tourist Board participated in the Rum & Rhythm Benefit & Auction, the ultimate Caribbean epicurean experience. The event brought together tourist industry officials and local consumers to dance, dine, and imbibe in a magnificent showcase of the region. Proceeds from Rum & Rhythm benefit the CTO Scholarship Foundation which provides scholarships to Caribbean nationals desirous of pursuing studies in Tourism and tourism-related subjects.
