A Free Virtual Event (5-6 p.m. Eastern time) via Zoom + Jamaica in a Box
JAMAICA IN JANUARY is a foodie forward event that is meant to warm the soul, brighten the spirit and tingle the toes of COVID-weary people everywhere. It’s a brief respite from the frigid January temperatures for sun worshippers, beach-loving tourists and homesick Jamaicans who are missing the irie vibes of the island.
This 2-part event on January 31 serves up the deliciousness of Jamaica with a Virtual Event and JAMAICA IN A BOX…think spicy jerk chicken; ol’ fashion Jamaican Stew Peas with Pig’s Tail; ginger beer; and a Jamaican rum cake cheesecake that has people losing their mind. Jamaica in a Box is available one in the Greater Toronto area only.
The 60-minute virtual event will be hosted by Miss Tania Lou (channeling the spirit of the late Jamaican folklorist Louise Bennett) sharing Jamaican stories, poems, songs and riddles to wrap you in the tropical sun and cozy vibe of the island.
It will also include a liquor and food pairing session by chef Noel Cunningham; hot button topic, ‘does sugar belong in rice and peas?’; plenty of prizes and more.
Jamaica in January is organized by JamaicanEats magazine and is accompanied by playlist of Jamaican music, from old-time ska to 2020 Grammy-winning reggae singer Koffee.
