According to a analysis published by the Cato Institute, Jamaica holds the 5th most miserable nation in the world.  There were 90 countries listed in the 2013 Misery Index. The countries were selected based on data from the Economist Intelligence Unit and calculations from Steve Hanke, a professor of Applied Economics at Johns Hopkins University. See the full study here. Ironically the Happy Planet Index of 2012  lists Jamaica as the 6th Happiest country  on the planet (see top 10 below).
