BOXHILL DEFEATS BURRELL – December 23
Crenston Boxill was elect as the new president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) at the Starfish Resort in Trelawny this morning, defeating Captain Horace Burell after months of vigourous campaigning by both candidates. The Boxhill team campaigned on a platform that touted the total remodelling of the football, promising changes in the administrative structure, plus development in infrastructure, youth and coaching programes. Horace Burrell, who established himself in international football circles by
becoming a member and chairman of FIFA’s and CONCACAF’s disciplinary committees, and also serving as a Caribbean Football Union (CFU) vice-president, had increasingly lost the trust of the Jamaican football fraternity because of his policy not to disclose how the administration was spending funds assigned to the JFF. Preliminary results of the 104 eligible votes give Boxhill 54 votes to Burell’s 49 with one no vote. Captain Burrell defeat was blamed on the arrogance, mismanagement and disrespect his administration displayed over the years and the frustred delegates made their voices heard by voting him out.
