The 4th annual staging of the Jamaica Poetry Festival shall unfold on Sunday August 10th at Louise Bennett Garden Theatre, 36 hope Road, Kingston, Jamaica.
Art and Life – Social Intervention: The Jamaica Poetry Festival represents our sustained effort which is aimed at social renewal and transformation. This is a collaboration with the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), SenYAcum / Edutainment Promotion and the Jamaica Poetry Foundation. Consistent with this social mandate, we have a youth/family focus which is designed to help in the resetting of the mindset of the Jamaican youth.
Free Creative Writing Workshops(10am – 2pm): Since behavioural challenges have their roots in a lack of positive self-expression, our Creative Writing Workshops are deliberately designed as effective means of therapy and have proven to help in treating mental scars and delinquent behaviours. Therefore, in balancing art and life we aim to celebrate and promote positive, creative and socially responsible self expressions, in the interest of the social fabric of Jamaica.
The Creative Writing Workshops will be facilitated by Yasus Afari, Steppa and the JCDC among others. The workshop component will commence at 10am and will finish at 2pm.
The Creative Writing Workshops will focus on the notions of caring and sharing with the view of transforming lives and shaping the future with positivity in art and in life.
