ATKINSON TIES WORLD RECORD IN SHORT COURSE WORLD—12/06/14
Jamaica’s Alia Atkinson achieved a tie for the world record in the first Short Course World Championship held in Jamaica. Jamaican history was made when Atkinson won first place in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:02:36 to tie the world record at the first short-course competition for both Atkinson and Jamaica.

JAMAICAN LOOKS FOR FUNDING FOR 2015 PARALYMPIC TEAM—12/07/14
The Jamaica Paralympic Committee is searching for funds to help the team in 2015. It is encouraging supporters of the team to help it compete in two of the largest championship competitions in 2015: the Toronto Parapan American Games and the International Paralympic Committee Athletics World Championships to be held in Doha.

ALVAS POWELL GOING TO PORTLAND TIMBERS—12/09/14
Jamaica’s defender Alvas Powell has achieved a permanent contact with the United States Major League Soccer team, the Portland Timbers. He has spent the past year on loan from Portmore United. Powell, who is a highly regarded player, thanked the Portland organization for its faith in him, and also noted the contributions to his success made by his former club and his agent, Damani Ralph.

JAMAICA BEATS LEEWARDS—12/10/14
The Jamaica Franchise obtained its third victory at the West Indies Cricket Board Four-Day Professional Cricket League competition by beating the Leewards Hurricanes. Jamaica scored 195 for six in 35 minutes in the first session on the final day. It bowled 91 overs.
