REGGAE BOYZ FIRST CARIBBEANS INVITED TO COPA AMERICA—11/30/14
Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz are the first team from the Caribbean to receive an invitation to the Copa America tournament, the oldest continental competition in football. The tournament has been held for 98 years. The Boyz will face Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay in Group B.
JAMAICA BEATS TRINIDAD BY 37 RUNS—12/01/14
Jamaica’s team defeated the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force by 37 runs on the final day of the Professional Cricket League four-day match in Port-of-Spain. Trinidad was beaten by Man of the Match Nikita Miller, a left-arm spinner, who took seven wickets for 63 runs, leading his team to victory. Jamaica is now is second place behind Guyana.
JAMAICA’S POOR SHOWING AT BADMINTON TOURNAMENT EXPLAINED BY HENRY—12/04/14
Gareth Henry, the top Jamaican player, provided an explanation for the poor performance of Jamaica at the Central American and Caribbean Games. According to Henry, the lack of a coach for the national team was the chief reason for Jamaica’s failing to win a medal at the games. The team continues to train as it had four years ago, and this is not good enough now, since teams around the world are investing in coaching staff.
JAMAICAN GOLFER WINS TITLE—12/05/14
Wesley Brown, Jamaica’s newest golf star, succeeded in winning the Do Dare Charity Professional event at Cinnamon Hill in Montego Bay. This was his second straight victory in home territory. Brown shot seven under par in the two-day event, having scores of 69 and 68 and winning by nine strokes.
