For 51 years, the JCDC Jamaica Visual Arts Competition & Exhibition has been nurturing and showcasing the talents of Jamaican artists providing them with a platform for expression and contribution to Jamaica’s art industry. The Competition which is staged by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), an agency of the Ministry of Youth & Culture, is inviting applications for the 2015 Competition which closes entry on Friday, January 16, 2015.
Entries are open to youths 6-18 years old and adults 19 years old and over who must be Jamaican citizens and persons who reside in Jamaica for a period not less than two years at the closing date for entries. The categories include ceramics, painting, fibre arts, photography, sculpture/assemblage, video art and works on paper.
Persons can drop off entries at the JCDC Parish Offices island-wide, except for entries from Kingston & St. Andrew, which should be dropped off at Shop No. 25 Kingston Mall, Orange Street Kingston (across from the National Gallery in Kingston) during the period of January 5 to 16, 2015. Entry forms can be accessed online at www.jcdc.gov.jm , at the JCDC Head Office, 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10 and all JCDC parish offices island-wide.
Entrants will compete for attractive prizes such as trophies, cash, exhibition & training opportunities and art supplies and equipment.
The Competition boasts several notable talents including Osmond Watson, Dr. David Boxer, Colin Garland, George Rodney, Christopher Gonzalez, Cecil Cooper, Alexander Cooper, Norma Rodney Harrack, FitzHarack, Maria la Yacona, Howard Moo Young, Donnette Zacca, Errol Harvey, Owen Minott and Dr. Warren Robinson.
