Today, Jamaica welcomed the first nonstop international flight from America’s largest airline, Southwest Airlines. The inaugural flight from Baltimore/Washington International Airport touched down this morning at Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay with three more Southwest flights arriving throughout the day.
This marks the start of nonstop service from three of Southwest’s major hubs in the U.S. to Montego Bay, Jamaica. The Baltimore/Washington route will operate twice daily from Baltimore Washington International into Montego Bay. The airline will also operate daily service out of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International and Orlando’s International airport.
“We are extremely pleased that Southwest Airlines has selected Jamaica as its first international destination” said Dennis Morrison, Chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board. “The four Southwest flights which landed at the Sangster International Airport today, shows the strong partnership that is being developed between the destination and the airline. The additional flights will make it easier for visitors in the Baltimore, Atlanta and Orlando markets to plan their Jamaican vacation.”
In addition to a Caribbean-themed send off at the Baltimore/Washington International Airport, customers on the inaugural international flight alongside Southwest employees were treated with commemorative beach balls, snorkels and masks. A welcome reception was held at the Sangster International airport to welcome the new flight service.
Jamaica, with its mountainous ranges and beautiful coastlines, is blessed with magnificent waterfalls and natural wonders. A year-round vacation destination, Jamaica has more attractions that any other English speaking Caribbean country. From adventure excursions to relaxing on a bamboo raft, the island has a variety of options for all travelers. Its accommodations range from luxury resorts and villas to charming cottages and inns, all focusing on top-notch service with restaurants to fit any taste and price point.
