Celebrating Jamaica’s 45th Anniversary of Independence and supporting a wonderful cause. Elegant Events by JADU in association with Diabetic Research Associates For A Cure will host a formal dinner dance. Join us at The Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom 311 West 34th Street, New York, NY Saturday, August 4 2007 7 p.m. – 3 a.m. Cocktails will be served at 7 p.m. giving you an opportunity to mix and mingle before the formal program begins.
In honor of Jamaica’s anniversary the evening will be a night of elegance. Our host for the evening is a veteran in the Caribbean community Jeff Barnes. There will be a special dance performance by Venette’s Cultural Workshop. Later that evening be entertained by New Kingston Band & D.J. Disco Kid; Dinner will be catered by Gabrielle’s Fine Dining.
One of the messages usually expressed by political figures is the importance for partnerships to be created between Jamaican nationals in the US and nationals in Jamaica. This event is the perfect opportunity to strengthen those partnerships; we are taking a percentage of the proceeds and donating it to an organization we’ve identified in Jamaica that’s doing a world of good for the poor Food For the Poor. We will also give a percentage to a local organization that benefits our youth– Venette’s Cultural Workshop Scholarship Fund in Long Island, New York.
This event will become an annual formal fundraiser dinner dance for JADU.

Jamaica – Food For the Poor
Jamaica’s housing needs are unique in the sheer numbers of the poor who lack adequate homes. At present, there are 15,000 families waiting for a new Food For The Poor house.
For The Poor builds quality, well-constructed wood houses in Jamaica for families who live in tin and cardboard shacks, under black plastic sheeting or in substandard hovels that do little to shelter them from rain and windstorms. The houses all have sturdy concrete foundations and are constructed with termite-resistant lumber. The cost of wood is the biggest factor in building these homes, since all the lumber must be imported.
