The Jamaican Consulate General at Miami, is pleased to lead the ofñcial charge for the community wide commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of lamaica’s Independence in Florida.

Our global Diaspora and their host communities have the exciting task of promoting commemorative activities in areas such as sports, literary and performing arts, philanthropy and community welfare, tourism, trade and investment and the services sector, and multicultural affairs. Some of these commemorative projects planned for South Florida are being led by the Consulate and others emanate from community collaborations. As we celebrate the bonds of friendship between the Jamaican and American people and, indeed, the contribution of our Diaspora to the diversity profile of the great county of MiamiDade, the Consulate General is particularly excited about endorsing selected projects such as the Fifth Annual Downtown Miami Riverwalk Festival & Boat Parade  November 9 to 11, 2012.

The architect of the Festival, David Brown, is a colleague of ongstanding whose work and credibility are well known to me personally and to the Consulate. David has been a friend of the Caribbean Community over the past two decades, and of Jamaica where he has visited and volunteered in Country 14 times. His festival and tours showcase and promote the multicultural communities of South Florida. Each year, since 2008, he produces a cultural festival on the beautiful venue of the Miami Rivenrvalk, where the Miami River meets the Biscayne Bay, adjacent to One Miami Condominium, the Epic and the Met in the heart of Downtown Miami.

The Fifth Annual Downtown Miami Riverwalk Festival & Boat Parade, will be honoring the Country of Jamaica this year – as the nation whose culture will be highlighted in and around the Festival on November 9-11, 2012, in the Downtown Miami/Brickell area. The Festival highlighted Bahamas in 2010 and Haiti in 2011. They were extremely successful in sharing the Caribbean culture and exciting the interests of new audiences.

It is in this spirit that we endorse the Fifth Annual Downtown Miami Riverwalk Festival & Boat Parade which will feature Jamaica this year. We have included it in the listing of upcoming events for the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of Jamaica as a community activity on the calendar of co~branded events for this special year.

We encourage you to support David’s efforts in producing the Festival by assisting with sponsorship and vendors that will showcase the best of what Jamaica has to offer. David may be contacted at:
