Cabinet has given approval to Jamaica’s recognition of the National Transitional Council (NTC) as the legitimate representative of Libya. Jamaica now joins sixty other countries in acknowledging the NTC which was established in February 2011 to act as the political face of the revolution.
Speaking at a post cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House on September 29, Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Daryl Vaz said the NTC has declared itself as the only legitimate representative body of the Libyan people and state until an interim authority is established.
“The NTC has been gaining recognition as Libya’s legitimate representative. The issue of recognition would be relevant at the 66th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York and it is expected that the NTC would seek to represent and speak on behalf of Libya in the General Debate” Minister Vaz said.
