Jamaican-American Leo Gilling, Miramar Commissioner Candidate, Leads The Pack At Candidate Forum

COMMISSIONER CANDIDATE PLANS TO INCREASE MIRAMAR’S REVENUE

MIRAMAR, FL — Leo Gilling, Candidate for The City of Miramar Commission Seat 4, spoke about his vision to increase the City’s revenue at the West Miramar Meet the Candidate Night Event on Wednesday, February 27, 2019. The event was held in the Sunset Lakes Ballroom and began at 6:30 p.m. with a candidate meet-and-greet. At 7:00 p.m. the candidates introduced themselves and the floor was opened up for questions. Candidates for Miramar Mayor Seat 5 and Miramar Commission Seat 4 were present at the Miramar Municipal Election Candidates’ Forum, including City Commissioner Candidate Leo Gilling.

“My platform has been to find new revenue streams for the City of Miramar, which will offset expenditure and take the burden of rising taxes off our residents,” Gilling said after the West Miramar Meet the Candidate Night Event. “For the first time in these months of campaigning, my three opponents made impassioned speeches about increasing revenue. One went as far as to insert plans for a movie theatre, one of the cornerstone programs I’ve been championing in my vision for the City of Miramar. I am glad they are listening, but I am more concerned why it took them so long to do so.”

Miramar residents have expressed that they tired of political officials who make empty promises. They need a leader who is accessible and cognizant of their needs. By meeting with fellow residents, Gilling has inspired them with his vision to make Miramar a thriving and self-sustainable city. Gilling’s proposal to increase self-generating revenue, without an additional tax burden, has been embraced by residents. They are open to doing the necessary “footwork” to create genuine and long-lasting connections.

“It is such a joy to speak with the residents and get a positive feedback,” Gilling stated. “Listening to their concerns allows me to get a better understanding of what needs to be done when I am elected.”
