Youtube turned pop sensation, PSY is gearing up for tour this July and, is on a global hunt to find his next personal chef. The contest started last month and is in full swing. Jamaican competitor, Shelley Chapman, is heating up the kitchen and bringing a broader awareness to Caribbean and global cuisine. Shelley remixed a traditional Korean dish called Bibimbap, by adding ingredients like jerk chicken and callaloo. “It’s in the mix up, where we discover the beauty in difference” said Shelley. Born of Jamaican and American parentage, Shelley has been a fan of fusion since birth as she stated matter of factly “A Jamaican and a Korean? We [Jamaicans] are everywhere and I’m ready to be in that mix.”
PSY isn’t doing all this hard work alone. Bibigo, a Korean restaurant chain and food brand, is also chipping in. Rooting itself in the Korean expression “bibim”, meaning to share the good fortune, Bibigo is giving the world a taste of Korea. The competition of PSY’s chef ends May 12th. “Even if you don’t enter [the contest], visit the website and see the way others interpret the “bibim” experience” adds Shelley.
