Jamaican Consul General to Attend 5K Fundraiser in Miami That Celebrates Jamaican Independence

Oliver Mair, whose office is located at the Jamaican Consulate in downtown Miami, will help celebrate the contributions of the Jamaican people across South Florida as the event showcases the rich Jamaican culture with food, music and dance.

“We’re honored to have Consul General Mair attend and speak at our inaugural event,” says pediatrician Dr. Tina Carroll-Scott, founder of the 5KGallop. “Having his official support will help us reach our goal of raising $60,000 to help schools in Jamaica recover from the devastations of the pandemic.”

Dr. Carroll-Scott, medical director of the South Miami Children’s Clinic, has Jamaican roots and traveled frequently to Jamaica during the pandemic promoting vaccines and acceptance.

Mair took over as Consul General in the fall of 2018. The MBA graduate of Nova Southeastern University has a varied background in the private sector – from Jamaica’s travel and tourism industry to entertainment, agro-processing and real estate.

His experience in sales/marketing, strategic planning and project management, along with public relations and government-corporate relations, made him well-poised to engage with and promote the Jamaican community in the Southern USA.

To register for the 5KGallop or make a donation, visit https://5kgallop.orgThe fee to participate in the 5K run or 5K trot/walk is $30, or $15 for the “likkle pickneys” ages 2 to 9 years old. Any primary through secondary school in Jamaica is eligible to receive funding, though there must be a minimum of 60 team participants (including donors who don’t attend the event) for a school to become a beneficiary.
