Jamaican Senate seat for the diaspora

It seems the discussion on a Senate seat in the Jamaican Government for the diaspora is heating up again. It is ironic that it comes after the heated debate and court case on dual citizenship. I am interested in hearing more on how this seat would work. I know there is this discussion of giving the Jamaican diaspora a voice in the “decision making and governance” of Jamaica but I can’t help but be skeptical. It seems to me that this seat is to pacify those who want to say I live abroad but am very involved in what happens in Jamaica or it will be used as a lobby tool to get more from the Jamaican diaspora. Is giving up a seat to the Jamaican diaspora productive? Will it help to tackle the key issues facing Jamaica? I am waiting to hear more before I drink the cool aid
