Jamaicans are to benefit more with the launch of iVu tv . iVu is an online tv network based in Jamaica offering ad-supported and premium on-demand streaming of TV shows, plays, movies and webisodes to PCs, tablets, smartphones and TV. It is scheduled to launch on February 15, 2012.
eMedia Interactive, the parent company for iVu & eZines recently raised US$350,000 in a private placement arranged by PanCaribbean Financial Services. “This investment will go into building out our technology and purchasing the necessary equipment to strengthen the capacity of the company to deliver quality media content to our market,” said Tyrone, President & CEO of eMedia – formerly eZines Limited.
eMedia Interactive got Richard Byles, one of Jamaica’s most successful corporate executive to join the board in the capacity of chairman. “As a young entrepreneur, I understand what is needed when building a company, and having a sound and competent board will ensure a strong foundation for the company. We’re pleased to have Richard on board as he’s experienced in various industries – currently serving as President & CEO of Sagicor Life Jamaica, Chairman of PanCaribbean, Chairman of Red Stripe & served in the past on the board of Air Jamaica & as chairman of The National Water Commission”, explained the young entrepreneur.
“iVu will change the game regionally. We expect to provide new income earning opportunities for members in the film industry. Currently, the opportunities are limited, our content locally suffer from lack of international exposure due to inadequate opportunities. iVu will change this. With the internet, individuals from all around the world will be able to view Caribbean content directly from our website.”
iVu is also launching their premium subscription version in late 2012 or early 2013 – iVu +. iVu + will enable individuals to subscribe for US$7.99 monthly and this will enable them to access iVu on mobile devices, tablets and connected tv. “We’re excited about iVu + because it will create even more ways for members of the diaspora to watch our content. This matches their currently lifestyle in North America and Europe with the likes of Netflix and Hulu who’s content are accessible basically on all devices out there.”
