WHAT: Chabad Jewish Center will host Purim Jamaica, an island-themed holiday bash.
Purim celebrates the salvation of the Jewish people in the fourth century B.C.E. from one of the most colorful villains in Jewish history. It is observed by public readings of the Megillah, or “Scroll of Esther,” sending food portions to friends, giving gifts of money to the poor, and enjoying a festive meal, according to a news release.
The event, for all ages, features a Megillah reading, Reggae music and a Drum Café with local musicians Jah Amen Mobely and David Gad, plus island-themed crafts for kids, and face painting, hair beading, and a Jamaican barbecue buffet.
WHEN: March 20, 2011. 5 p.m.
WHERE: Chabad Jewish Center, 30804 S. Coast Hwy.
