The celebration of March as International Women’s Month took a swift backseat with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic throughout the world. The only event that took place to mark International Women’s Day before the halt of celebration activities was the second annual Goldspeak Women 2020, held Saturday March 7, 2020 at the Courtyard by Marriott, Columbia, South Carolina. This life-changing event presents an opportunity to all to get an opportunity to receive golden nuggets of wisdom to live a better life.
Totlyn Oliver, Jamaican radio personality is the host, conceptualizer/organizer of Goldspeak Woman 2020 CEO Goldspeak LLC, explained that this interactive event brings a variety of stories to a platform to provide the audience with answers to some of their own challenges using the examples of success methods shared from the stage. She says “Goldspeak Women 2020 had the driving focus this year of sharing the healing power of music, dance, art and embracing your own individuality for success. Our audience and I were not disappointed!”
Scores of men and women, from as far as Greenville, Charleston, Charlotte and Atlanta turned out to Goldspeak Women 2020 to experience a series of inspirational women speakers sharing their discoveries, stories of triumph and embracing freedom even in the midst of their own struggles and limitations. These speakers encouraged the audience women to hope, dream, overcome fears, shame, disappointments, embracing life with the fullness of joy, anticipation, grace and beauty. Our speakers share real life experiences and examples of living with limitations & without boundaries, outlining their own creative solutions.
One first-time attendee beamed with delight as she said, “I know this event wasn’t made just for me…but it feels like it was tailor-made for me…” as she shared her experience of listening to a panel of five women speakers. Totlyn explained that she deliberately chose speakers who taught, inspired, encouraged and shared with the audience their life challenges and the tools used to overcome them successfully.
GOLDSPEAK 2020 PRESENTERS
The event began with author Candace Thompson (IG: Candacetheartist), CEO, Canvases with Candace LLC, who spoke about life being like a canvas and how each one of us is an artist, being sure to use the correct tools to paint the pictures of our lives. She was followed by 25-year veteran/media marketing specialist Martha Kirby who described her methods used to embrace the leader within. The audience was moved by TEDx Speaker & IT Business Owner of Berlogix, Lisa Berry as she described the journey from embracing her own “WEIRD” to navigating a life with financial setbacks.
SC Artist in residence, dancer & author Gail Glover (IG: gailgfaust) led the audience in an interactive session on how to incorporate movement and dance in our everyday life as a method of healing and praise. Her presentation created an atmosphere of new creations, celebration and support. International speaker, podcaster, musician songwriter Marlo Hogue (IG:raydiantmarlo) rounded out the program with her moving musical presentation which illustrated how music is a healing balm in troubling times. She demonstrated this powerfully by performing her composition, in honor of her father who saved her life by being her kidney donor.
WHAT THEY SAID
“It is refreshing to have a place where you can come and share ideas on how to overcome obstacles…” said Michelle Cakley, a first timer at GoldSpeak Women. Chanel Brown said, “This is my second year at Goldspeak Women event and while last year was great, this year far exceeds what I experienced last year!” Cassandra Fuller of Orangeburg said “The stories were powerful and motivating. My daughter attended with me and she loved it and learned a lot about making her dreams become a reality.”
The program finale took the form of a question and answer session which allowed audience members to learn more about the speakers’ experiences and to share their personal feedback.
